Pioneer Brings Shade to Silver Lake Playground
Pioneer Concrete donates trees to local park

DOVER, Del. (November 6, 2007) -

Employees of Pioneer Concrete, the area’s leading supplier of ready-mix concrete, moved soil instead of concrete when they spent a Saturday morning planting trees at Silver Lake Park in Dover.

Pioneer partnered with Dover’s Park and Recreation Department, donating the trees and their “green” thumbs as part of beautification efforts to give back to the local community. When full grown, the new trees will provide shade to a nearby playground where local children and their families routinely gather to enjoy the outdoors.

Pioneer is no stranger to reaching out to the community. “We have been working with representatives from several cities, including Dover, to find unique ways to participate in downtown development and beautification projects,” said Michael Petrillo, general manager of Pioneer Concrete. “This park beautification project was an opportunity for us to be involved in community development and provide a better play area for local children and their families.”

In addition to community development, this project also involves another important focus for Pioneer – the environment. A little known fact about concrete is that it is one of the most environmentally-friendly construction materials available, because it is made almost entirely of natural resources found in the earth’s surface. Limestone, the predominant component of cement, is recovered from very shallow mines, which means less energy to acquire it and less impact on the earth’s surface. Pioneer continues to promote the most environmentally-friendly types of concrete as part of the company’s commitment to the environment.
